I could have sworn I ordered a large in black, but I received a medium in the red color. I am generally a medium but I had wanted to size up for any thicker layers I might wear underneath. These do fit with a base layer and a hiking type pant underneath, but would be too tight with jeans or thicker pants. They would work with leggings underneath. I would have preferred a large I think, but will keep the medium. The shoulder straps are very long, which allows for a lot of adjustment to get them fitted properly, which is nice. I actually love the red color. It isn't to red, or orange, nor too burgundy colored. It is just different enough to be neutral and will go with pretty much any color coat I would wear with them. The five pockets are nice. It's rare for women's clothing to have many pockets. All in all, they are very nice pants. My recommendation would be to think about sizing up, especially if you might wear thicker clothing underneath.
